At the meeting before this meeting, we talked about how God loves us.
Jeremiah 31:3 — With an everlasting love
Ephesians 3:19 — With a love that passes knowledge and yet can be understood
John 13:1 and Isaiah 54:10 — Un-changingly, without end.
Ephesians 5:2 — Sacrificially
Hebrews 12:6 — As sons, with chastening
Romans 8:35-39 — unstoppably, empoweringly, without measure
Ephesians 2:4-5 — Greatly, with rich mercy
1 John 3:1 — as a Father (He adopts us as His children!)
At the meeting we just had, we discussed Why God loves us.
1 John 4-7-10 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
He loves us because it is His nature to love; love is part of His very being and essence. Love has always existed among the trinity and always will.
So what does this mean for us?
…we can come to Him boldly for help. (Hebrews 10:19-24)
…we can love Him (1 John 4:19)
…we are eternally safe as we abide in His love (John 10:27-29)
…we can be secure and fulfilled, with no fear (1 John 4:18)
…we can love each other (1 John 4:7-9)
…we are His adopted children (1 John 3:1-3)
…we should be thrilled and excited and telling everyone!
…He is committed to doing whatever it takes to make us more like Him. We need to submit to His work.
We talked about how it would be if you had never heard before that God loved you–how that would change your life.
After the message, we did skits–the following skit was inspired by the thought of how the knowledge of God and His love would change a tribe who had never heard before.
Meet the Chicktaws, whose days were unfortunately filled with arguing and fighting.
One day, three strangers came into their little village, bringing word of the One True God and of His love for them, both through testimony and through the written word of God, the Bible. (they also brought Hershey kisses…)
The Chicktaw people pondered this…
And the three missionaries explained things to them from the word of God.
A year later, we come back to find things much changed through the love and power of God–now they are kind to each other instead of constantly fighting.
There were three other skits, but I only have video of those…
Next it was snack time! Mama did a wonderful job making it look special. 🙂
And we finally took group pictures!!
Love you girls!!
So the assignment for before the next meeting is to read the whole book of 1 John. Don’t worry, it’s really short. 🙂 Also, continue to look in the Bible and daily life for ways God loves you. Remind yourself of it often; let His love change you the way you imagined it would change someone who had never heard.
See you all at the next meeting!! (February 24th)
